According to Thayer, under the leadership of Lam, Vietnam could reach its target of becoming a developed country with modern industry and upper-middle income by 2030 which, as Lam said, is a main goal. A positive factor is that Vietnam has been among the fastest-growing economies in the region.

Regarding priorities in Vietnam’s foreign affairs in the coming time, Party General Secretary and State President To Lam affirmed that the country will continue strengthening ties with its neighbours, strategic and comprehensive partners and traditional friends, unceasingly consolidate political trust, peace dialogues and cooperation at the highest level for development, enhance contributions to maintaining peace and stability in the region and the world, elevate multilateral diplomacy, and promote its role as a proactive and responsible member of the international community.

Thayer described the priorities as basic principles of the nation’s “bamboo diplomacy”, adding they are the results of the collective decision-making leadership and flexible approach, adding there will be a continuation of the previous policy, which will comfort countries with cooperation relations with Vietnam about the continuous engagement in the future./.
