Beijing (VNA) – Vietnam and China need to further strengthen people-to-people, student and scholar exchanges, as well as expand economic, tourism and investment partnerships, thus promoting mutual understanding and economic development in both countries, according to Prof. Jin Canrong, Associate Dean of the School of International Studies at the Renmin University of China.
In an interview granted to Vietnam News Agency correspondents in Beijing on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties and the Year of Vietnam - China Humanistic Exchange, Jin highlighted the shared historical background of the two countries, stressing that despite ups and downs, bilateral relations have been continuously intensified thanks to great efforts made by generations of leaders and people from both countries.
He stated that Vietnam and China are both socialist countries led by the communist parties, and the relationship they have built over the past 75 years has not come easily. Therefore, they should work together to maintain political stability, safeguard common interests, and promote economic development.
In recent years, the relationship has remained stable, achieving substantive results in economic cooperation, the Chinese expert noted, underlining the necessity of promoting collaboration in this field.
China places great importance on economic cooperation with Vietnam, which boasts considerable economic development potential among the 10 ASEAN member nations, he said.
With a population of over 100 million, an abudant and young workforce, rich natural resources, and effective economic development policies, Vietnam is one of the fastest growing economies in ASEAN and holds vast potential for development across all sectors, he added.
Increasing people-to-people exchanges; promoting cooperation in cultural and social affairs, drug trafficking and transnational crime fight, as well as cybersecurity; and addressing global challenges are also areas that both sides need to focus on in the coming time, Jin went on./.
