Can Tho (VNA) – In a joyful atmosphere celebrating the success of the 14th National Party Congress, the 96th anniversary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, and the upcoming Lunar New Year (Tet), Politburo member and National Assembly (NA) Chairman Tran Thanh Man on January 30 visited, extended New Year greetings, and presented gifts to policy beneficiary families in Binh Thuy ward, the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho.

On behalf of Party and State leaders, the top legislator conveyed warm wishes for good health, happiness, and a joyful new year to the city’s leaders, Binh Thuy authorities, policy beneficiary families, and local residents.

Updating local people on the country’s socio-economic achievements in 2025, Chairman Man said that despite numerous difficulties, challenges, and complicated global developments, Vietnam recorded remarkable results in various fields.

He stressed that under the Party’s leadership and thanks to the great national solidarity, Vietnam has maintained macroeconomic stability and kept inflation under control, thus reserving resources for social security and public well-being.

Notably, he said, alongside completing the elimination of makeshift and dilapidated houses, the Politburo approved a policy to build boarding schools providing both primary and lower secondary education in 248 land-border communes. This important task aims to improve education, material conditions, and spiritual life for border residents while contributing to national defence and security safeguarding.

Meanwhile, the Party building and political system building has also achieved positive results, with organisational structures streamlined to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

The NA Chairman noted with pleasure that despite difficulties, Can Tho city and Binh Thuy ward have maintained socio-economic development. The city posted GRDP growth of 7.23%, and 25.877 trillion VND (997.57 million USD) in State budget revenue, exceeding the set target. Established under a resolution of the NA Standing Committee, Binh Thuy ward officially came into being on July 1, 2025, with its administrative apparatus running smoothly and efficiently to serve the people.

Regarding parliamentary activities, Chairman Man highlighted that the NA has continued to innovate its legislative mindset. In 2025 alone, it passed a record 89 laws and 91 resolutions. The laws just regulate matters under the NA’s authority while the Government was granted greater flexibility in enforcement. The NA also increased the application of digital transformation and artificial intelligence to ensure both quality and efficiency.

On this occasion, he asked the Party organisation of Binh Thuy ward to promptly implement the Resolution of the 14th National Party Congress, develop an action plan for implementation, prepare well for the election of deputies to the 16th NA and all-levek People’s Councils for the 2026–2031 term, and ensure all residents enjoy a merry Lunar New Year./.
