Ninh Binh (VNA) - The first Ninh Binh GM/IM/FM Chess Tournament 2025 concluded on December 27 after eight days of intense play in the blitz and standard formats.

In the GM category, Vidyarthi Vyom of the US claimed the championship title. The silver medal went to Ravi Teja S. of India, while the bronze was awarded to Daniel Quizon of the Philippines.

In the IM group, the title was won by Garcia Jan Emmanuel of the Philippines. Nguyen Van Hai of Vietnam secured the silver medal, and Wynn Zaw Htun of Myanmar took the bronze.

The organisers also presented awards for male candidate masters in Groups A and B, female candidate masters in Groups A and B, as well as overall champions in the U8, U10, U12 and U14 categories.

The tournament attracted more than 100 athletes from India, the Republic of Korea, the US, Myanmar, Russia, the Philippines, Sri Lanka and host Vietnam.

According to the organisers, participants demonstrated strong professional competence, skills and competitive experiences gained through numerous domestic and international tournaments. The event aimed to assess training and athlete development outcomes of the participating countries, while providing opportunities, particularly for Vietnamese players, to achieve international norms, increase Elo ratings and enhance professional standards.

The tournament served as a platform for athletes to exchange experiences, strengthen connections and share their passion for the sport, thereby promoting friendship, mutual understanding and cooperation among countries. It also offered an opportunity for Ninh Binh to promote its socio-economic potential as well as its scenic landscapes and historical and cultural sites to domestic and international friends./.
