The Ba Chua Xu (Holy Mother of the Realm) Festival at Sam mountain in the Mekong Delta province of An Giang was officially recognised by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage of humanity at the 19th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in Paraguay on December 4, 2024. With this recognition, the festival has become the 16th intangible cultural heritage element of Vietnam recognised by UNESCO.

In 2016, approximately 4.5 million Vietnamese were residing in 109 countries and territories. Today, the figures have risen to over 6 million and more than 130, respectively. Once focused on small-scale trade, many OV entrepreneurs now own major retail centres and operate extensive wholesale networks, boosting the availability of Vietnamese products abroad.

According to official figures, a total of 8,056 inmates have been granted early release under this year’s amnesty.

World leaders have flooded Vietnam with congratulatory messages as the country is commemorating the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification (April 30, 1975–2025).

A grand parade in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975-2025) was held solemnly and impressively in Ho Chi Minh City’s District 1 on April 30 morning, with the participation of more than 13,000 people.

The April 30, 1975 victory was a symbol of ardent patriotism, the strength of great national unity, the indomitable and heroic fighting spirit of the Vietnamese army and people, and the strong aspiration of the Vietnamese people for independence, freedom, peace and happiness.

Party General Secretary To Lam said with a burning desire to safeguard national independence and reunification, and with the spirit of "Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom", the entire Vietnamese people, from Nam Quan Pass to Ca Mau Cape, united to repel the invaders and everywhere marked the bravery, sacrifices and glorious feats of the army and people.

This historic milestone not only marks the liberation and reunification of Vietnam but also symbolises the end of imperialism in the Mekong region.

As war correspondents for the Vietnam News Agency, they arrived on the battlefield in the South during the final years of the resistance against the U.S. After the liberation, amidst the chaos and the lingering effects of war, they got married in a special ceremony—considered the first wedding of the liberation forces in Saigon after April 30, 1975.

In the spring of 1975, under the clear-sighted leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), the Vietnamese army and people achieved a historic victory – completely liberating the South, reunifying the country, and ending more than two decades of war against the US imperialists.
