Vietnam surge nine spots back into world Top 100

Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnam’s national football team surged nine places to 99th in the latest FIFA world rankings released after the March 2026 FIFA international window, marking the biggest jump of any team worldwide in this update.

The side coached by Kim Sang Sik climbed to 1,225.68 points, gaining 36.17 points from the previous ranking. The rise returns Vietnam to the global Top 100, a notable milestone for the national team.

Bosnia and Herzegovina, Nepal and Bhutan recorded the next-best improvements, each moving up six places. In contrast, Malaysia suffered the steepest fall, dropping 17 places to 138th and slipping to fifth in Southeast Asia after being overtaken by the Philippines national football team.

In Asia, the top five remain unchanged, led by Japan (18th), followed by Iran (21st), the Republic of Korea (25th), Australia (27th) and Uzbekistan (50th).

At the top of the global standings, the France national football team lead the rankings ahead of Spain and Argentina.

The March update also introduced real-time ranking updates, allowing team points and positions to fluctuate during international matches before final confirmation at the end of each FIFA window.

Vietnam’s return to the Top 100 reflects the team’s improving form and provides fresh momentum as it targets stronger results in regional and continental competitions./.
