Hanoi (VNA) – Viettel Telecom has been shortlisted for the prestigious Global Mobile (GLOMO) Awards 2026, widely regarded as the “Oscars of the mobile industry,” the company announced on February 25.
The nomination comes in the Tech4Good category for its initiative “Connected Vietnam 2025: No One Left Behind from 2G to 5G.”
The awards ceremony is scheduled for March 4, during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
Organised by the GSMA, the GLOMO Awards are among the most respected honours in the global mobile ecosystem. Judged by more than 200 independent experts, the awards span over 30 categories. The Tech4Good category recognises technology-driven initiatives that deliver sustainable and positive social impact. Previous honourees included major industry players such as SK Telecom, China Mobile & Huawei, Telefónica/ProFuturo (Spain), Safaricom (Kenya), and Fairphone (the Netherlands).
Viettel Telecom’s nomination in this category underscores international recognition of its efforts to ensure inclusive access to modern mobile connectivity and essential digital services, particularly for disadvantaged communities in rural, mountainous, border and island areas.
“Connected Vietnam 2025” represents a comprehensive nationwide strategy integrating infrastructure, devices, digital services and user support. Notably, Viettel has pursued a “three-in-one” approach: transitioning users from 2G to 4G, upgrading voice services to VoLTE, and expanding 5G coverage simultaneously. The company has proactively identified 2G subscribers requiring assistance and deployed outreach teams to provide direct, on-site guidance in remote communities.
Since 2024, Viettel has migrated nearly 10 million 2G users, provided more than 800,000 free 4G devices to low-income subscribers, and expanded 4G/5G coverage to 98% of the population.
Beyond infrastructure, Viettel has introduced affordable 5G plans starting from 100,000 VND (3.83 USD) and partnered with leading device manufacturers to accelerate 5G adoption, reinforcing its transformation from a traditional telecom operator into a technology enterprise committed to community-centred digital development./.
