13th ASEAN Para Games: Vietnamese swimmer breaks Games record to win gold
By the end of January 21, Vietnam had collected eight golds (seven in swimming and one in powerlifting), along with five silvers and six bronzes (all from swimming), at the 13th ASEAN Para Games.

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam claimed another gold medal at the 13th ASEAN Para Games on January 21, with swimmer Vi Thi Hang delivering an impressive performance and breaking the Games record in the women’s 50m backstroke (S6–S7).

Hang finished in 45.63 seconds, smashing the previous record of 49.13 seconds.

This was her second gold at the Games, following her earlier win in the women’s 100m freestyle (S7) with a time of 1 minute 20.68 seconds.

Swimming proved to be a major strength for Vietnam on the opening day, as the team secured seven gold medals, from Vo Huynh Anh Khoa, Nguyen Van Hanh, Trinh Thi Bich Nhu, Vi Thi Hang, Le Thi Dung, and Ha Van Hiep.

In para powerlifting, seasoned Le Van Cong won gold in the men’s 49kg category with a lift of 178kg, overcoming tough competitors from Indonesia and the host nation Thailand.

Indonesia’s A. Hadi earned silver with 177kg, while Thailand’s Boonyang Buttrom took bronze with 115kg.

Vietnam’s Luong Hoang Thong placed fourth with lifts of 93kg, 100kg, and 108kg.

By the end of the day, Vietnam had collected eight golds (seven in swimming and one in powerlifting), along with five silvers and six bronzes, all from swimming./.
