Hanoi (VNA) – Party General Secretary To Lam has urged Nhan Dan (People) newspaper to serve as a “vanguard”, a “shield,” and a sharp, agile “sensor station” for capturing, disseminating, and guiding public information.
In a keynote address at a ceremony in Hanoi marking the 75th anniversary of the newspaper’s first issue on March 11, General Secretary Lam highlighted its more than seven decades of evolution while maintaining its role as the Party’s sharp ideological weapon, an effective information and communication channel for Party committees and authorities at all levels, and a trusted platform for Party members and people.
The newspaper has consistently fulfilled its mission as the central organ of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), the voice of the Vietnamese Party, State and people, contributing to bolstering social trust and fostering unity in awareness and action across the Party, people and army, he said.
Throughout the cause of socialist construction, renewal and national development, Nhan Dan has closely tracked dynamic social realities, actively propagated and mobilised public support for the Party’s reform policies and guidelines as well as the State’s laws and policies. It has paid attention to identifying new issues of high theoretical and practical value, promptly reporting emerging trends and thereby creating an important channel for the Party and State to grasp realities and further refine their policies, guidelines and mechanisms to better meet national development requirements.
Nhan Dan was asked to continue to leverage its core strengths, traditions and unique identity as a Party newspaper, fulfilling its function as the CPV’s official organ and the voice of the Vietnamese Party, state and people. With a deep understanding of its role as the Party’s political-ideological banner in journalism and cyberspace, it must clarify priorities and approaches to build on its proud traditions, sustain its leading position in information dissemination, communication and public opinion guidance, and operate as an effective, sharp ideological tool.
This entails steadfastly upholding the system of the principled guiding viewpoints on the Party’s leadership, Marxism–Leninism, Ho Chi Minh Thought and the renewal policy, while continuously adapting them to practical conditions, maintaining strategic autonomy, establishing a new development model in which development underpins stability and stability enables rapid and sustainable growth, improve living standards, and firmly defending the socialist Vietnamese Fatherland.
The Party newspaper must truly be pioneering and exemplary, becoming a trusted companion to a wide readership. It should not only reflect reality but also inspire and encourage trust and responsibility, contributing to forging social consensus under the Party’s leadership. It must spread inspiration, steer readers toward the values of truth, goodness and beauty; promptly and resolutely combat fake news, harmful information and distortions; and simultaneously promote positive, humane and constructive societal values. For Nhan Dan specifically, the spirit of serving the Fatherland, Party and people, rooted in honesty, fairness and compassion, must remain paramount.

The Party chief called on the newspaper to intensify its contributions to Party building and the development of a clean, strong political system by tackling major, complex and pressing national issues. It should broaden and improve specialised sections and columns on following the 14th National Party Congress’s Resolution and the Politburo’s strategic resolutions to build social consensus, unity of thought, determination in action and strict discipline.
At the same time, sci-tech, innovation and digital transformation must drive Nhan Dan’s multimedia and multi-platform journalism, enabling it to lead effectively in digital and online spaces while staying at the forefront of professionalism, humanity and modernity.
In the Party’s ideological domain, Nhan Dan must serve as a primary, broad-reaching information source, delivering practical and useful updates on key current affairs for cadres and Party members, while also acting as a valuable resource for Party history research. It should disseminate and explain new Party policies and guidelines, foster a spirit of renewal and social responsibility across all strata of society, and ensure Party and State information reaches every citizen in clear, accessible language, appropriate formats and with respect and empathy, he added.
On the occasion, General Secretary Lam presented the newspaper with the first-class Labour Order.
Earlier the same morning, the Party chief and other Party and State leaders held a working session with the newspaper’s key leaders./.
