Bangkok (VNA) – Vietnam’s para athletes continued to make a strong impression at the 13th ASEAN Para Games in Thailand, delivering outstanding performances in swimming and powerlifting.

A major highlight came on January 23 morning, when swimmer Vi Thi Hang produced a remarkable display to win the gold medal in the women’s 100m backstroke (S6–S7). She clocked 1 minute 43.20 seconds, not only finishing well ahead of her rivals but also setting a new Games record for the event.

The silver and bronze medals went to host athletes Phimsan Nathee and Chanin Patcharin.

This was Hang’s second gold medal at the Games, following her victory in the women’s 50m backstroke in the same classification on the opening day. Her consistent form has helped make swimming one of the most successful sports for the Vietnamese para sports delegation at this year's Games.

Vietnam also added to its medal tally in para powerlifting, with strong performances on the third day of competition in Nakhon Ratchasima province.

Competing against tough opponents from the host nation and regional powerhouse Indonesia, Tran Thi Chau claimed a silver medal in the women’s 67kg event with a lift of 93kg, while Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy secured bronze in the women’s 61kg event, lifting 85kg./.
