Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnamese electric vehicle maker VinFast on July 5 unveiled the VF 2, a compact urban electric car priced at 188 million VND (7,200 USD), including the battery, as part of its strategy to make car ownership more accessible for Vietnamese consumers.

The two-door, four-seat model offers a driving range of up to 210 kilometres on a single charge. Pre-orders will open on July 15, with deliveries scheduled to begin in September 2026.

Developed from the Minio Green platform, the VF 2 is designed for city driving with compact dimensions of 3,090 mm in length, 1,496 mm in width and 1,663.2 mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2,065 mm, providing manoeuvrability while accommodating four occupants.

The exterior features LED headlights and 13-inch alloy wheels. Inside, the vehicle is equipped with a 7-inch digital instrument display behind the steering wheel, air conditioning, a four-way manually adjustable driver's seat, and a two-speaker audio system with FM radio.

The rear-wheel-drive VF 2 is powered by a 30-kW electric motor delivering 65 Nm of peak torque, enabling a top speed of 80 km/h. It offers Eco and Normal driving modes to suit different urban driving conditions.

Its 18.3-kWh usable battery provides a maximum range of approximately 210 km under the NEDC standard. Using a 24-kW DC fast charger, the battery can be recharged from 10% to 70% in about 34 minutes, making it suitable for daily commuting.

For safety, the VF 2 comes with a driver's airbag, anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD) and traction control system (TCS). MacPherson suspension is fitted at both the front and rear to enhance ride comfort and stability.

VinFast said the price of 188 million VND, which covers the battery, makes the VF 2 one of the most affordable electric cars currently available in Vietnam. Buyers will also receive up to 10 free charging sessions per month at V-Green public charging stations nationwide through February 10, 2029, helping reduce operating costs during the initial years of ownership.

Customers placing deposits between July 15 and 17 will receive an 8 million VND (approximately 305 USD) discount per vehicle. The deposit is 10 million VND, non-refundable but transferable to an immediate family member or a business owned by the depositor.

Industry experts said the launch of the VF 2 expands VinFast's electric vehicle portfolio into the entry-level segment, targeting first-time car buyers and urban residents. With a price comparable to many premium motorcycles, combined with low operating costs and complimentary charging, the VF 2 is expected to accelerate the adoption of electric mobility in Vietnam./.
