100-year-old traditional brocade weaving craft of Cham People in An Giang

Along the tranquil Chau Doc River, the Cham village of Chau Phong (Chau Phong commune, An Giang province) still preserves a traditional brocade weaving craft that is over a hundred years old. From time-worn hand looms, Cham artisans diligently create vibrant brocade fabrics, deeply rooted in their ethnic cultural identity. Besides preserving the traditional craft, the villagers also create many products to serve tourism needs such as scarves, bags, clothing, and souvenirs. The combination of preserving cultural heritage with developing community tourism has helped the village attract visitors eager to observe the weaving process, learn about Cham traditions, and purchase handmade products directly from local artisans. This approach has helped generate stable incomes for families while encouraging younger generations to remain connected to their heritage. VNA Photo: Thanh Sang
