General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee and President of China Xi Jinping expressed confidence that under the CPV’s unyielding leadership, led by General Secretary To Lam, Vietnam will successfully realise the resolution adopted by the 14th Congress and achieve its two centennial goals on the occasion of the Party and the nation’s founding anniversaries.

The Hanoi event saw the presence of Party General Secretary To Lam, incumbent and former leaders of the Party, State and Vietnam Fatherland Front, along with representatives of socio-political organisations, agencies, sectors, and the public.

Addressing the congress on behalf of the 14th Party Central Committee, General Secretary To Lam expressed profound gratitude for the trust and confidence placed in him, describing it as a great honour and a heavy responsibility before the Party, the people and the nation.

The 14th Party Central Committee reached absolute consensus in electing General Secretary of the 13th Party Central Committee To Lam as General Secretary of the 14th Party Central Committee.

While praising the strong direction from the Party leadership, Professor Tran Thanh Van stressed that trust can only endure when translated into concrete action. Despite progress in legislation and policy-making, implementation remains uneven, with financial mechanisms and administrative barriers still constraining innovation.

In a congratulatory message sent to the Communist Party of Vietnam, the Communist Party of Australia described the Congress as a momentous event for the Vietnamese Party, State and people to chart the country’s socialist development path in a new era. Among its key tasks, the Congress will review 40 years of Doi Moi (renewal), 35 years of following the Platform on National Construction, and five years of carrying out the 13th National Party Congress’s resolution.

The 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) solemnly opened at the National Convention Centre in Hanoi on January 20 morning.

In his presentation at a recent seminar hosted by the Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia, Dr. Kin Phea described the the 14th National Congress of the CPV as a historic and momentous event, saying that with three strategic breakthroughs and six key tasks set for the country’s new revolutionary period, the Congress is seen as a landmark ushering in a new era - the era of the nation’s rise.

After four decades of implementing the Doi moi (Renewal) process from 1986 to 2026, Vietnam has recorded proud and far-reaching achievements that have laid an important foundation for its aspiration to become a high-income developed country by 2045.

The Congress is an occasion to assess the country’s development situation during each term, review leadership outcomes, and draw valuable lessons of both theoretical and practical significance. It is also where the Party gives full play to collective intellect, the spirit of solidarity, renewal, and creativity in order to set out policies and orientations for national development in the subsequent period.

The congress unanimously approved the preparatory session’s programme, the working regulations of the congress, the congress work programme, and the election regulations for the 14th National Party Congress.

Pham Tat Thang, member of the Party Central Committee, Vice Chairman of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Information, Education, and Mass Mobilisation, and standing deputy head of the Central Steering Committee in charge of grasping the public situation and social opinion regarding party congresses at all levels, as well as the draft documents of the 14th National Party Congress, said that those documents not only review the five-year development journey and define the key directions, objectives, tasks, and solutions for the upcoming term, but also shape strategic thinking, vision, and development orientations for the country toward the middle of the 21st century.

Dr Ho Quoc Tuan, Senior Lecturer at the University of Bristol in the UK pointed to Vietnam's strong economic performance during the 2020–2025 period, noting that Vietnam not only sustained robust growth but also preserved key growth engines, particularly exports, while steadily enhancing the economy’s internal resilience during an interview with the Vietnam News Agency.

The establishment of the Communist Party of Vietnam on February 3, 1930 marked an inevitable turning point in the nation’s history. It was a brilliant milestone in the long journey of constructing, safeguarding, and developing the country.

With the motto "Solidarity - Democracy - Discipline - Breakthrough - Development," the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam is taking place at the National Convention Centre in Hanoi from January 19-25, 2026, with the participation of 1,586 delegates representing over 5.6 million Party members nationwide.

The former diplomat once said when leaving Hanoi in 2019 that: “Vietnam is not only a place where I worked, it became a part of my diplomatic life”. Today, in his message to the 14th National Party Congress, his enduring affection for Vietnam remains steadfast, a quiet thread connecting friends across half the globe in shared aspirations for peace, independence, and social justice.

Sustaining broad-based consultations and listening to views from all walks of life, particularly those directly creating value, will be key to Vietnam’s even greater success, said an official of Germany’s Left Party.
